What Makes a Good Teacher?
A few years ago a very wealthy businessman from Australia named Peter Daniels came to the U.S. to speak. While attending one of his meetings he related the following true story:
I was traveling by taxi from the hotel to where I was to speak to a corporate client's large group of employees. The taxi driver struck up a conversation and asked me what I do. I told him that I had previously been in business in the Australian Stock and Real Estate markets and now do corporate training for executives and public speaking to motivate people to achieve their goals.
He said that he was also trying to improve himself by attending night classes. So I asked him about his class and his teacher specifically.
"What class are you taking?" I asked.
"Accounting, I want to get into financing and investing"
"What kind of car does your teacher drive?"
"What?" asked the cab driver.
"I said what kind of car does your teacher drive?"
"He drives an old beat up Toyota. Why do you ask?" responded the taxi driver.
"Now why would you want to learn about finances and investing from a guy who obviously can't even succeed with his own advice?"
The driver stared for a moment and then responded, "Hmm, I never thought about it that way".
